Death marks the ending of something. As nothing goes to nothing, so one thing ending becomes another starting, and Death can be a beautiful card of Transformation - the flowers growing here and attracting butterflies.
This Gaian Death, though, reminds us of the decomposition involved in such a transition. Remember that Death may carry feelings of loss and fear. It can be difficult to let go of what is over and focus on what is coming, and the approach of something new and possibly unknown can be frightening.
It can be useful to accept a period of grief where Death has manifested, but this, too, must end. You may wish to consider connections here with the 3 of Swords.
In these ways, Death can echo the feelings of sacrifice associated with The Hanged Man and may need the latter's change of perspective in order to move on into the magical blending that is Temperance.
A Death that can release what has gone before and embrace what is next on offer is a Transformation indeed.
